CDA (Child Development Advisor)

 

My name is Shannon Lyman, and I am the Child Development Advisor (CDA) at C.W. Perry School.

As the CDA, my role is to support student’s social and emotional well -being.  I offer individual or group sessions with identified students, which could include practical in-class reinforcement of skills.   I act as a liaison between school staff, parents as well as outside agencies.  I provide families with support and implementation of programming for all youth with respect to developing a positive school climate.

A large part of my position is working with students on an individual basis, providing guidance and support with issues including:

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Loss and Grief
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Problem Solving
  • Family support/referrals
  • Resiliency/character building
  • Healthy relationships
  • Social Skills
  • Anger management
  • Proactive interventions for kids at risk

I work collaboratively with program specialist, psychologists, as well as a number of outside agencies such as but not limited to; Child and family services, Airdrie Addiction and Mental Health, Community Links as well as our School Resource officer.

 

Referral Process and Accessing the CDA

Students can be referred in 4 ways:

  • Parent/guardian
  • Self-referral
  • Administration/CDA
  • Teacher
